He angitūtanga: The opportunity

West Wave is one of the biggest and busiest leisure centres in New Zealand. We are currently looking for a Fitness Team Leader to play a key part in making the experience of our customers fun, safe, and enjoyable.

This role isn't about hanging around the step machines looking cool; this is about leading a team of Fitness Consultants and Fitness Team Members who love to engage with our customers, talk to them, and to understand their needs to encourage them to enjoy keeping fit & healthy regularly.

You'll play a key role in setting the tone for service, lifting consistency, and ensuring the function operates with professionalism, responsiveness, and a strong customer focus. This includes day-to-day leadership of team members, performance management, training, development, and leave oversight for staff based primarily at the centre.

You'll be responsible for:

  • Overseeing all fitness floor operations, driving service improvements, supporting member retention, and leading the development of new and existing fitness programmes within the centre.
  • Collaborating with other stakeholders to proactively identify, and, where appropriate, implement ways to improve customer experience and grow participation.
  • Uplifting team performance, development, and accountability by making sure your team members are highly engaged, appropriately qualified, and skilled with appropriate development plans in place.
  • Ensuring hazard management plans, policies, processes, and training are effectively managed and there is ongoing compliance within the team.
  • Contributing to centre-wide leadership, planning, and problem-solving.

This is a full-time, on-site, permanent opportunity, working 40 hours per week. The centre operates across 7 days, 5:30am to 9:30pm most days, and this role may be required to work across all days and hours of operation.

Flexibility to work a variety of shifts and hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and public/school holidays is essential for this role.
