Auckland Council's Solid Waste unit manages the region's commercial refuse, kerbside domestic refuse, recycling, hazardous and inorganic waste. We are also responsible for the management of transfer stations, the development and delivery of waste minimisation, and cleaner production initiatives.
And being an essential service provider – we are always operating!
We have a Permanent Full-Time opportunity for a Waste Recycler & Operator to join our Henderson team based at the Waitakere Refuse Transfer Station. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team delivering essential services to Tāmaki Makaurau and our environment!
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Transfer of waste to landfills
- Diverting reusable items and recycling materials from the waste stream
- Managing customers at the different drop-off areas
- Health and Safety - ensuring staff and customers are kept safe
PLEASE NOTE: We are open 8am-6pm, Monday to Sunday. You will be working 5 days per week, one of them must be a weekend day, as per agreement with your team leader. You will have the same shifts on a regular basis.

You will understand that recycling counts, and really does make a difference to our environment and the future of Tāmaki Makaurau.
We will be looking for:
- A full NZ driver's licence, Class 1 is required
- WTR (Wheels Trucks and Rollers) Endorsement preferred – but we will consider providing training and upskilling you - providing you have your Class 1 driver’s licence
- Experience with heavy machinery preferred (Waste, construction, landscaping, or similar)
- Physical fitness - a medical assessment may be required as part of the selection process
- Commitment to Health & Safety
- An approved handler certificate, specifically in chemical handling, is also highly advantageous
This role is safety-sensitive and requires pre-employment drug testing.
