He angitūtanga: The opportunity 
We're looking for an experienced person to join our Zoo Facilities team.  As the Utilities Technician Coordinator, you will ensure a whole of life best practice management approach to Zoo infrastructure assets.


Reporting to the Zoo's Team Leader Technical Services, you will be responsible for the supervision of suppliers and staff, undertaking and developing hands-on preventative, predictive and reactive maintenance, and the daily monitoring, reporting and management of asset data for the Zoo's water systems, waste water, storm water, gas & electrical utilities.

A critical component of this role is the ability to apply technical and practical solution finding to our infrastructure assets and working closely with and providing solutions for internal staff. 


The performance of the infrastructure assets is an integral part of the Zoo's successful and safe operation and your skills will contribute to achieving that outcome.

You will have a natural ability to build and maintain effective relationships, with good communication and negotiation skills followed by your excellent organisation and time management skills in a highly reactive environment.


With your ability to read and follow engineering drawings and plans and your solid knowledge of contractor management, you will be able to provide a strong customer focus commitment to quality services.

You will have 5+ years relevant practical and technical experience, could include: 
• Experience in the use and care of utilities, plant and machinery including the running of technical infrastructure systems.
• Experience in built trades, infrastructure, or utility services
• Demonstrated work in infrastructure asset management practices.
• Experience recording and interpreting infrastructure data and applying a logical and pro-active approach to problem solving and asset maintenance.
• Supervision of suppliers to achieve high performance outcomes.
• Demonstrated experience with specialist water filtration systems and wastewater systems.


This is a hands on role  requiring a high level of physical fitness. You will hold a current NZ driver's licence with no restrictions and be comfortable driving a manual vehicle. A class 2, 3 or 4 heavy transport license would be advantageous!

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity, working 40 hours, including weekends and public holidays based on the roster, which is a flexible programme of work taking into account personal commitments, leave and zoo requirements.
