Company: Auckland Council

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

As a Senior Planner in our Resource Consents department, you’ll be exposed to an incomparable variety of district and regional resource consent applications. No two days are the same as you could be working on assessing an apartment block, a new film studio, major infrastructure projects or a coastal subdivision, and more.

As a Senior Planner you will assist your Team Leader with mentoring and developing junior planners. You will also attend council hearings as the reporting officers and represent Council as an expert witness in environment court and other courts. You will provide accurate professional advice, both verbally and in writing to applicants and the public, to ensure applicants and affected parties are aware of their rights and responsibilities while increasing their understanding of planning processes and regulatory controls.

As a senior Planner you may also, when required, be a 2IC for your Team Leader and need to act under delegations to make decisions on some resource consents.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll bring with you at least four years of planning and resource management experience, and proven experience processing resource consents. You have a tertiary qualification in urban planning, resource management or in a similar field acknowledged by NZPI. With strong working knowledge of the Resource Management Act 1991, you’ll already be a collaborative team player and a supportive coach to less-experienced Planners.

As this role may require you to occasionally travel around the region using Council vehicles, you’ll also need to have a full, clean New Zealand driver’s license.

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer

There are endless opportunities to develop your career in planning across the Council group; this position will expose you to a range of specialisations and potential job trajectories. Our Resource Consents unit processes more than 17,000 consents annually and facilitates a wide range of development projects, from major subdivisions and nationally significant infrastructure projects to houses, apartment buildings and shopping centres. The opportunities are diverse like no other planning job.

We offer flexible working arrangements and a competitive salary. You’ll be joining a team of dedicated and respected experts working collaboratively across the region to contribute to Auckland’s growth and development. We are committed to diversity, and have a culture built on trust and valuing individual as well as collective contributions.

If you’re passionate about building a brighter future for Auckland like we are, then apply today!

Applications close on 5th March 2021. However, please note that we will review applications as they are received – so apply now to avoid disappointment.
