We are recruiting for a Manager, Community Place – Helensville Library to lead a talented team and build relationships within a library-loving community! Helensville Library is also an integrated service site which means all staff have capability dealing with a range of Auckland Council related queries and services in addition to library services.

Helensville Library is situated in Helensville township 40 kms northwest of Auckland, close to the southern end of the Kaipara Harbour. It is in the Rodney Local Board area, is an urban/rural setting and has close links to other areas in Auckland including Kaukapakapa, Waimauku and Kumeu.

With a proven track record in staff leadership, we are seeking a people person who can foster strong relationships with key stakeholders. You will also create effective community practice addressing the needs and priorities of the Rodney West local communities and provide a safe, welcoming environment for customers and staff.
 
Key responsibilities include:

  • Day-to-day operational management of the library including responsibility for financial and staffing allocations
  • Facilitating and growing community and partner-led activity which meets the needs of the community 
  • Supporting the collaborative management of recruitment and induction of staff for the local board team, as well as the development and coaching of existing staff
  • Lead and develop staff to deliver excellence in visitor experiences.

 

This is a permanent, full-time opportunity leading a team of 7, requiring flexibility to work across the Rodney West local board area as required. The library is open six days a week. There may be requirement to work some weekend days and after hours for events as needed.

  • Leadership and Management Experience: proven ability to lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing team.
  • Librarianship and Customer Services: experience working within a small library environment supporting teams and customers to learn, build knowledge and capability. An interest and desire to work in an integrated service site is central to the role.
  • Relationship Building: essential to success in community engagement and partnering within the Rodney Local Board communities.
  • Embracing Change and Diversity: skilled in guiding teams through ambiguity, fostering diverse and innovative thinking, and creating a positive culture. The Rodney West region and communities are urban/rural in make-up. The library is part of a larger community centre building including an Arts Centre with much potential to support further activation of the spaces for the community. Responding and realising the potential of these opportunities is central to the role.
  • You will be committed to being a great Tiriti o Waitangi partner and you understand the importance of te ao Māori and te reo Māori within our places.
