Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.
Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.
As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:
- Provide a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
- Educate and enforce pool rules
- Respond to any First Aid emergencies
- Ensure pool and surrounds are clean at all times
The Shifts:
12 hour position – Monday and Friday

Monday 1.30pm – 10pm and Friday 4pm – 8pm
32 hour position – Sunday, Wednesday – Friday

Sunday 11:00am – 7:30pm

Wednesday 9:30am – 6:00pm
-
Thursday 11:00am - 7:30pm

Friday 5:15am – 1:45pm
He kōrero mōu: About you
We are looking for people of all ages that are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others and can commit to 32 hours of work.
To become a lifeguard with Auckland Council as the first step you will need to be able to pass this test, please only apply for this position if you feel you can do this (or could do this with training).
- Swim 200m freestyle in less than 6 minutes
- Swim 50m any stroke
- Duck, dive and retrieve objects from the bottom of the pool (at 5m depth)
- Tread water for 5 minutes
To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, the Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC) is the minimum award you need to hold.
As such, we will provide ALL training for you free of charge and pay you to attend the training.

By the same token, if we occasionally need some help in other areas such as at our front desk and general customer service duties, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if short-staffed or at peak periods.

This role is classified as a Children's Worker role under the Vulnerable Children Act 2014 and is deemed a safety sensitive position. As such applicants will be required to undergo police vetting and a drug test prior to commencing employment.
