An opportunity arisen to work as a Library & Council Service Assistant in Whau
Local Board Libraries, based at Blockhouse Bay Library. This will require you to be flexible as you may need to work from other sites within the local board libraries, such as Avondale and New Lynn.
Blockhouse Bay Library is a busy community library serving a diverse and vibrant community. Our library whānau is focused on caring for each other, our community, and our environment.
We are looking for a flexible all-rounder to join and contribute as part of a high-achieving, cohesive, and dynamic team. You will be supporting the team and contributing to the day-to-day running of the library. As this is a customer service role, you will be supporting customers from all walks of life.
Many of our libraries are open 7 days a week so flexibility around working days, including weekends and late nights, is required. We are looking to fill a 20-hr permanent part-time role.
Shifts Below:
- Sunday: 11.30am – 4pm
- Monday: 9.00-6.00
- Thursday: 9.00am -5.30pm

You will have strong people skills, are flexible and adaptable to our library environment. You have a passion for customer service with a positive attitude towards serving people of all ages and backgrounds. You are eager to learn new skills and thrive in a busy work environment.
We are looking for someone who is:
- Collaborative, creative and enthusiastic in planning, promoting and delivering events and programmes for all ages and diversity
- Brings a can-do attitude – full of ideas, and ready to make things happen
- Is digitally confident. Understands and uses technology creatively and with confidence, able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices
- Has a strong people focused, and empathy driven work ethic. Along with a positive attitude, pride in their work and in the ability to influence others positively.
- Is reliable, adaptable and fosters great relationships with the team and our community
- Can demonstrate experience working with a diverse age group and range of people
- Demonstrates excellent written and communication skill with a strong people focus
- Demonstrates an understanding of Te Ao Māori values and principles
- Has a clean driver’s licence

Band E Salary, the salary for this role starts at $65,000 per annum, pro rata. Depending on skills and experience we may be able to appoint the successful candidate at a higher rate than this.
