Auckland Council’s Pool & Leisure Centre’s are looking for Learn to Swim Team Members to help our centre create a fun, caring, and safe environment for our customers and visitors.
This is a fantastic job if you are interested in getting involved in the Sport and Recreation industry.
You will work in the pool, giving ‘learn to swim’ teaching lessons to groups of our community. In this role, you will get to work with people of all ages, starting at 6 months through to adults.
Day-to-day, you could expect to work on:
- Teaching Aucklanders the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
- Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
- Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
These are an on-site, permanent positions, varies from 8 to 13 hours, working weekdays 3:15pm - 7:15pm and Weekends 8:45am - 1:45pm.
Please note that shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.
He kōrero mōu: About you
You’ll be a confident swimmer and an enthusiastic instructor with a genuine love for water and working with young children. Exceptional customer service and clear communication skills are essential, as you'll be engaging with families and the wider community.
This role is all about nurturing confidence and joy in the water for our littlest swimmers. You'll be working closely with babies, toddlers, and preschool-aged children, helping them feel safe, supported, and excited to learn. If you have a gentle approach and a passion for early childhood development, this is a beautiful opportunity to make a splash in their learning journey.
You should be comfortable being in and swimming in the water, and working with all members of the community.
As this role works with children, you will need to be at least 16 years of age and have a current first-aid certificate and a swim teacher qualification. If you do not have a recognised swim teacher qualification, or a current first-aid certificate, you will be required to attend a two-week training at West Wave from 28 Sept till 9 October 2026 at West Wave.
This role involves spending extended periods in the water, working in a warm and humid pool environment, and regular exposure to chlorinated water. We share this information so you can make an informed decision about your application. Starting rate: Living Wage $28.95/h (Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to the base salary offered.)
