He angitūtanga: The Opportunity
Auckland Council is looking for an Animal and Customer Care Officer to join our newly established team delivering desexing services for dogs in high-risk areas, with additional support provided to Auckland’s four main animal shelters

 

Based at the Henderson Animal Shelter, this role starts and finishes each day in Manukau, where you will pick up and drop off dogs before heading to the clinic.


In this role, you will provide essential administrative support to the veterinary team, coordinate desexing appointments, maintain accurate records, and liaise with dog owners. If you’re organised, passionate about animal welfare, and have strong communication skills, this is the perfect opportunity to make a meaningful impact on Auckland’s animal care services.


This is a permanent full-time working 40 hours per week, Monday to Friday.

You are a detail-oriented and organised individual with experience in administrative roles. You have excellent communication skills, a passion for animal welfare, and the ability to handle multiple tasks at once. You enjoy supporting a team and have a customer-focused approach, providing compassionate care and advice to pet owners. Ideally, you have experience in a veterinary or healthcare environment, but a strong willingness to learn is just as important.

 

Key Responsibilities
•    Coordinate desexing appointments and manage the veterinary team’s schedule.
•    Liaise with dog owners, providing pre- and post-surgery care advice.
•    Maintain accurate veterinary records and generate reports.
•    Handle general administrative tasks such as phone calls, emails, system updates and document filing.
•    Assist with inventory management of veterinary supplies.
•    Provide compassionate customer service to pet owners and shelter visitors.
•    Support the veterinary team with various tasks as needed.

•    Proficiency in using computer systems for scheduling and record-keeping.
•    Attention to detail and accuracy.
•    Ability to provide clear and compassionate advice to pet owners.
•    Strong problem-solving and multitasking abilities.
•    Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
•    Excellent driving skills, including driving large vehicles.
•    Knowledge of basic veterinary terminology and procedures is a plus.


Job Requirements
•    Previous experience in an administrative role, ideally in a veterinary or healthcare setting.
•    Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
•    High school diploma or equivalent; additional qualifications in administration or animal care are a plus.
•    Strong organisational and multitasking abilities.
•    Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
•    Full driver’s license with a clean driving record.
