He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We have a fantastic opportunity available for someone seeking part time hours, to oversee and co-ordinate the ongoing delivery and development of the New Zealand Maritime Museum’s volunteer programme. Our volunteers are integral to the Museum’s culture, visitor experience and general running of the organisation. These passionate ambassadors of New Zealand’s maritime story contribute to over 35,000 hours of unpaid work per year.


In this dynamic and broad role, you will be responsible for recruiting and utilising the Museum’s unpaid workforce, as well as the induction, training, development and day-to-day management of our Volunteer Guides and the guided visitor tours.

He kōrero mōu: About you
This is a busy and varied role where no days are the same! Ideally you will bring 2+ years' of previous experience managing and coordinating large numbers of people, preferably volunteers. You’ll have strong organisational skills, a natural at multi-tasking and are comfortable working autonomously.


Your outstanding communication skills and warm and approachable manner will be essential to working with this diverse group of staff and volunteers. You will also have previous experience in recruiting and training people and ideally have knowledge and understanding of volunteer management best practices.

The New Zealand Maritime Museum Hui Te Ananui A Tangaroa is the place where the stories of people and the sea are preserved, shared and explored with our visitors. This role plays an integral part in delivering and expressing our rich and diverse maritime cultural history. 


This is a permanent part-time role working 32 hours across Monday to Friday, with the occasional weekend requirement. With flexible start and finish times and working remotely (1-2 days per week).
