This is a senior hands on technical leadership opportunity for an experienced engineer who wants more than simply delivering solutions. You will influence technical direction, establish engineering standards and help modernise the platforms that connect critical services across Auckland Council.

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Technology Services is looking for an experienced Technical Lead to join our Platform Engineering practice and lead the evolution of our enterprise integration capability.

Working across a large and complex technology ecosystem, you will provide technical leadership across MuleSoft, APIs, Azure and modern platform engineering practices.

You will partner closely with architects, product teams and delivery squads to solve complex engineering challenges, establish reusable patterns and ensure our integration platforms are scalable, secure, resilient and ready for the future.

This is a role for someone who enjoys remaining close to the technology while also having the opportunity to influence engineering direction and lift capability across the wider practice.

You could expect to:

• Provide technical leadership and direction for the MuleSoft platform
• Design scalable API led connectivity and enterprise integration solutions
• Establish integration architecture standards, patterns and reusable frameworks
• Guide API governance and lifecycle management
• Lead integration platform modernisation and continuous improvement
• Partner with architects and delivery teams on complex technical solutions
• Champion DevOps and modern platform engineering practices
• Lead Infrastructure as Code implementation across Azure environments
• Build and improve CI/CD pipelines
• Drive automation across platform engineering
• Strengthen platform security, observability, reliability and resilience
• Establish reusable cloud platform patterns
• Mentor engineers and help grow technical capability across the practice

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are an experienced Technical Lead, Principal Engineer or senior integration specialist who combines deep technical expertise with the ability to influence, guide and bring others along with you.

You will be comfortable navigating the complexity of a large enterprise environment and enjoy solving challenging integration problems. Just as importantly, you will be passionate about engineering quality, modern practices and helping other engineers develop.

We are particularly interested in experience with:

• 10+ years of experience designing and delivering enterprise integration solutions
• Technical leadership within large and complex environments
• MuleSoft and API led connectivity architectures
• REST APIs, asynchronous messaging and event driven integration patterns
• Integration standards, reusable frameworks and governance
• Infrastructure as Code, automation and modern DevOps practices
• Influencing technical decisions across architecture, engineering and delivery teams
• Mentoring engineers and building strong engineering practices

Experience across the following would be an advantage:

• Azure DevOps and GitHub Actions
• Azure API Management
• SAP Integration Suite
• Confluent Kafka and event streaming technologies
• Kubernetes and container platforms
• Splunk, Azure Monitor or other observability technologies
