Auckland Council’s Property department has an opportunity for an experienced Strategic Property Specialist to join our Optimisation, Acquisitions and Disposals team.

Working across Auckland Council, Auckland Transport and designated CCO property portfolios, you’ll have the opportunity to identify connections and opportunities across the wider portfolio, challenge conventional thinking and help ensure our property assets are working as effectively as possible for the organisation and the communities we serve.
This is a complex environment, so you’ll need to be comfortable navigating competing priorities, influencing a wide range of stakeholders and turning sound analysis into clear recommendations and action.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
• Review Council property assets to identify development, optimisation and disposal opportunities.
• Provide strategic property advice to senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
• Assess and implement identified opportunities through property, planning, development and market processes.
• Influence stakeholders to improve asset value, efficiency and strategic outcomes.
• Manage programmes, budgets and complex property challenges with innovative solutions.
He kōrero mōu: About you
This role requires significant experience across property, development or valuation, together with a strong understanding of local government and the Auckland property environment.
We’re looking for someone who can think strategically, see the connections others might miss, and confidently turn complex information into practical recommendations. You’ll be commercially astute, highly organised and driven to achieve outcomes, while having the interpersonal skills and resilience to operate effectively in a complex and sometimes politically sensitive environment.
Must-haves:
• Around 10+ years’ experience in property, valuation or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years’ experience and understanding of local government processes, particularly property and planning.
• Strong knowledge of property development, planning and the economics of development.
• Proven ability to influence stakeholders and deliver agreed strategies in complex environments.
• A tertiary qualification in a relevant property field, such as property economics or valuation.
Nice to have:
• Strong knowledge of the Auckland real estate market.
• Experience working across a large, complex or politically sensitive organisation.
• Experience influencing acquisition, disposal or property optimisation strategies.
• A track record of identifying creative opportunities and delivering challenging projects.
You’ll also need a full, clean NZ driver’s licence, or another practical means of travelling across the Auckland region.
Most importantly, we’re looking for someone with the drive to make things happen. You’ll need the confidence to ask questions, challenge thinking, build strong relationships and keep moving towards an outcome when things get complicated.
