Team Member - Recreation Assistant | Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre (Māngere)
Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure has an opportunity for a Team Member - Recreation Assistant position at our busy Moana-Nui-a-Kiwa Pool and Leisure Centre (Māngere).
As a Recreation Assistant no two days will be the same! You’ll help us deliver an exciting range of community fitness and school holiday programmes, from skating to inline hockey, to boxing and more!
In this frontline role, your responsibilities will include:
- Delivering exceptional service to our customers and visitors;
- Supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting sports and recreational programmes for young adults and youth;
- Helping the Centre maintain a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment;
- Providing assistance to Centre management with administration and operational duties; and
- Supporting with Centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes.
The shifts:
40 hours: Monday – Friday, and some Satursdays
Flexibility is required, especially during the school holidays, where occasionally there may be more early morning and late evening starts/finishes (e.g., 7am – 6 pm)
The shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the centre, so flexibility is essential.

You’ll already be passionate about sports and recreation, and ready to step into a frontline customer service role. It goes without saying that you’ll be responsible when it comes to working with children. You’ll have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids. An enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.
Ideally, you’ll hold a First Aid Certificate and have an understanding of health and safety procedures. Previous experience working with children is beneficial, and preferred. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.
