Team Member, Lifeguard
Shifts will vary across early mornings, late evenings, over weekdays and weekends at Otara Pool & Leisure Centre
There’s never a dull moment at our busy and fun-filled pool facilities, and as a Lifeguard, you will play a key part in ensuring that all customers have an enjoyable but safe experience.
Your main responsibilities will include providing to all pool users with quality supervision to ensure health and safety standards are upheld, providing customers and colleagues with accurate information on pool policies, Centre facilities, and aquatic safety and supporting with the delivery of Centre programmes and classes.
We aim to upskill and progress your career, so you have the opportunity to train and take on other functions within our centres, such as Learn to Swim Instructor, Fitness Instructor or Recreation Assistant. By the same token, if we occasionally need some help in other areas such as on our front desk and general customer service duties, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if short staffed or at peak periods.

- You’ll already have a love for aquatics and be committed to supporting community safety and wellbeing.
- Previous experience as a Lifeguard is advantageous, but if you’re a confident swimmer looking to upskill, we can support you with training.
- Having experience in water-polo is especially beneficial as a transferable skillset.
- Having clear and effective communication skills is key, as is being practically minded and using your imitative where required.
- Ideally, you’ll hold a First Aid Certificate as well as a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate, however, we can also support with training to help you obtain these.
- The centre operates 7 days a week, so reliability and commitment to working early, late and weekend shifts are crucial.
