Join Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department as a Senior Specialist in our Southern Operations team. In this dynamic and rewarding role, you’ll lead the delivery of best-practice stormwater solutions across streams, ponds, piped networks, and pump stations in South Auckland.


You’ll respond to public and stakeholder concerns, manage complex operational challenges, support emergency response, and contribute to strategic water outcomes across the region. You’ll also champion health and safety, financial discipline, innovation, and stakeholder collaboration—working closely with contractors, internal teams, and the community to deliver customer-focused results.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Leading investigations and resolving stormwater network issues
  • Managing high-risk, high-value operational projects
  • Supporting emergency and after-hours response (on-call availability required)
  • Providing input into and supporting ongoing stormwater asset management, including performance monitoring and renewals planning
  • Building strong relationships across teams and with the public
  • Contributing subject matter expertise to planning and delivery of infrastructure solutions

He kōrero mōu: About you

 

You’re a civil or environmental engineering professional with strong experience in three waters infrastructure and a focus on operational excellence and community outcomes.


You’ll bring:

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Environmental, or Environmental Science.
  • Ideally 8+ years’ experience in the water infrastructure sector, including stormwater operations
  • Proven project management and contract management experience
  • A strong understanding of health and safety legislation and site safety practices
  • Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and problem-solving skills
  • Experience working independently and within multidisciplinary teams
