He angitūtanga: The opportunity
In this highly rewarding role, you will be making a difference in our local communities, by reducing dog related harm and nuisance and helping us make dogs a positive part of Aucklanders’ lives.
You will be joining the Proactive Animal Management team, which has a strong focus on community engagement and education and undertakes intelligence led enforcement operations to enhance responsible dog ownership and compliance with the Dog Control Act 1996.
You will support the team to proactively deliver on targeted compliance initiatives across Tamaki Makaurau and will participate in public speaking and community engagement events with a focus on dog bite prevention and responsible dog ownership.
In this role, you will work across a wide variety of people and groups, assisting the Proactive Animal Management team with queries and public issues surrounding dog control. You will be responsible for the health, safety and wellbeing of your fellow Proactive Animal Management Officers through focussing on continual assessment of competency in the field. You will also act as a deputy to the Proactive Team Leader Animal Management, training and coaching team members and be responsible for the coordination of key region-wide projects and initiatives.
This role is based in our Manukau office and is Monday to Friday position with occasional weekend work.

We need a conscientious, community-minded person like you to ensure public safety and compliance. The key to your success is being able to form strong relationships and connections, providing quality advice and support to a wide range of stakeholders, and providing exceptional service to ngā whānau me ngā hāpori (families and communities).
This role suits individuals with strong public speaking or public-facing compliance backgrounds, who are passionate about positive outcomes for community, can demonstrate local community knowledge cultural awareness, strong public speaking and community engagement skills, customer service and conflict management skills, a calm empathetic approach to resolving situations, and dealing with aggressive dogs and other animals.
A natural collaborator, we’ll value your strong relationship building skills as you will be working with customers, complainants and external bodies such as the Police, SPCA, kura, marae, community groups and Local Boards. Proficient in dealing with prosecution files and knowledge of court processes, you have proven experience in public speaking, community engagement, leadership, training and coaching staff.
