As a seasonal lifeguard, your job is to help everyone stay safe and have fun at our pools by keeping a close eye on things and following health and safety rules.

Your key responsibilities:
• Keep the pool area safe through active supervision and friendly interactions
• Promote and enforce pool rules in a positive way
• Respond quickly and calmly to any First Aid emergencies

We have fixed-term 40-hour full-time opportunities during our busy summer period from 10th Nov 2025 or 1st December until February or March 2026 at our Otara Pools and Leisure Centre and Papatoetoe Centennial Pool and Leisure Centre.  

As our centre operates from 5.30AM to 9PM (Hours varies depending on the day), 7 days a week, the ability to work early morning, late night, and weekend are vital.  Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to working early, late, and weekend shifts are essential.

While your primary location of work will be based within the Māngere-Ōtāhuhu & Ōtara-Papatoetoe Local Board areas, there may be occasions when you are requested to work at other pool locations within the South Auckland region. Should this be necessary, your manager will discuss with you in advance.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you

To get started, you’ll need to feel confident in the water and pass a swim test. Here’s what you’ll need to be able to do:

  •  Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
  • Swim 25m using sidestroke
  • Swim 50m using breaststroke
  • Pick up an object from the bottom of the pool – max depth: 5M
  • Tread water for 5 minutes

To work as a lifeguard in New Zealand, you need a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC). Don’t worry as we’ll cover the cost and provide all the training you need, for free!

You will be required to attend the following training dates at our West Wave location Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:

  • 10/11/2025 – 21/11/2025
  • 01/12/2025 – 12/12/2025

You will also need to be available for a swim test on 24 Sept 2025 at Papatoetoe Centennial Pool and Leisure Centre and an Assessment Centre on 26 Sept 2025 at Otara Pool and Leisure Centre.
