Recreation Assistant Team Member | Ōtara Pool and Leisure Centre

As a Recreation Assistant Team Member, no two days will be the same! You’ll help us deliver an exciting range of community fitness and school holiday programmes, from badminton, basketball and volleyball, and more!

In this frontline role, your responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering exceptional service to our customers and visitors;
  • Supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting sports and recreational programmes for young adults and youth;
  • Helping the Centre maintain a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment;
  • Providing assistance to Centre management with administration and operational duties; and
  • Supporting with Centre activities including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You’ll already be passionate about sports and recreation, and ready to step into a frontline customer service role. It goes without saying that you’ll be responsible when it comes to working with children. You’ll have a flexible approach and be able to use your initiative to facilitate suitable programmes for kids. An enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.

Ideally, you’ll hold a current First Aid Certificate and have a good understanding of health and safety procedures. However, if not, training will be provided. Previous experience working with children is beneficial, and preferred. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

Previous experience in teaching or coaching would be a strong advantage for this role  — especially if you’ve coached sports like basketball or netball or have experience as an umpire. You’ll need to feel confident managing groups of children during after-school activities. A full clean driver’s license is also strongly preferred, as school pick-ups and drop-offs may be part of your responsibilities.
