We have permanent full time Park Ranger opportunity who will primarily be based at the Hunua Ranges, with the potential to support operations across the wider Southern sector.
As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for enabling safe and enjoyable outdoor recreation experiences in regional park settings and has a conversation focus.

Renumeration for the role is between $65,000 - $77,000 depending on experience and skillset.

Our regional parks are deeply loved and treasured by Aucklanders and visitors alike, welcoming up to 6 million visits each year. These parks showcase the iconic landscapes of the region and are home to many rare and threatened ecosystems and native species. For many, they are places of inspiration and identity—spaces to find tranquillity and connection with nature, or to enjoy active recreation in the bush or on the beach.
Ngā kawenga matua: Key responsibilities
This role involves a diverse mix of hands‑on and people‑focused responsibilities. You will manage and support volunteers and external stakeholders to achieve conservation and recreation outcomes, including overseeing and auditing contractor performance.
The role also involves liaising with visitors across campgrounds and visitor arrival areas, carrying out general park maintenance, and delivering historic site protection programmes to ensure park environments are safe, clean, and welcoming. In addition, you will support the wider ranger team with the maintenance of recreational assets, including walking and mountain bike tracks.

To be successful in this role, you’ll have a passion for the natural environment and for connecting people with nature. You’ll be a strong communicator who thrives on planning and prioritising your own workday, while still being an integral part of a tight-knit team. A ‘can-do’ attitude, along with being proactive, approachable, and motivated, will set you apart.
This role requires working on a 40 hour a week roster system, being available for weekends and public holidays.
