We’re hiring a permanent full-time Park Ranger to join our Southern Sector Parks Team, leading operations at Ōmana Regional Park and supporting nearby parks like Waitawa and Duder.

You’ll ensure a safe, welcoming environment for visitors while supporting biodiversity, heritage conservation, and sustainable park management. The role combines fieldwork, community engagement, and project leadership, all within Auckland Council’s inclusive and supportive workplace.

The renumeration range for this role is $62k - $74k, depending on skillset and experience.

 

He kōrero mōu | About You

 

Confident in public-facing environments, you thrive on engaging with a diverse range of stakeholders. You’re passionate about conservation and enjoy educating the public. You understand how to manage recreation in ecologically and culturally sensitive areas, and you work well both independently and, in a team, adapting to changing priorities and managing your time effectively. A good level of physical fitness is essential to meet the demands of this active, hands-on role. Availability to work weekends, public holidays, and on-call shifts as part of a 1-in-4 rotating roster is required.

 

To succeed in this role, you’ll need:

  • A relevant qualification in parks, conservation, land management, or similar (preferred)
  • Proven experience in pest plant and animal control, including weed and native plant identification
  • Practical skills in park maintenance and operating tools and machinery
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to work with iwi, communities, volunteers, contractors, and Council teams
  • A full New Zealand driver’s licence
