He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We’re looking for a Park Ranger with a passion for recreation, conservation, people, and cultural heritage. Please note, this is a fixed term full time contract for six months from the agreed start date. There may be an opportunity to apply for a permanent role at the end of this term. This role will play a key part in the management of operational and recreational facilities, interact with user groups, and contribute to maintenance, conservation and partnership projects.There will be the opportunity to work throughout the Southern Sector parks network and ongoing upskilling and training is part of the role.
Day to day duties involve tasks such as:
- Maintaining walking and mountain biking tracks
- Building and fixing structures and operating powered machinery
- Build relationships and be involved with recreation and community groups
- Be part of planning and overseeing upgrade projects, including contractor management
- Collaborate with other park rangers and support them in conservation projects

The renumeration for this role is between $65k - $72k pro rata depending on exprience and skillset

You’ll need to be a great communicator, team-player, have a positive attitude, and a passion for working outdoors. The ideal candidate will bring genuine interest in ranger work, particularly around recreation, track and structure construction and maintenance.
We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:
- Background in either asset management, maintenance, recreation, or conservation fields is desirable
- Qualifications in ecological, environmental, or parks management disciplines are desirable
- Competency in various machinery and equipment operation. Full training is provided where needed
- Self-autonomous individual who can plan and deliver various aspects of a project
- Due to the nature of this role, an excellent level of physical fitness and overall health is critical
- A current NZ full driver's licence and ability to drive manual transmission is also required
