In this highly rewarding role, you will be making a real difference in local communities by helping to reduce dog‑related harm and nuisance and supporting our goal of making dogs a positive part of Aucklanders’ lives.
You will join the Proactive Animal Management team, which has a strong focus on community engagement and education, alongside intelligence‑led enforcement activities to enhance compliance with the Dog Control Act 1996.
With support from a large and experienced team, you will deliver targeted, proactive initiatives across Tāmaki Makaurau, with a particular focus on high‑risk suburbs.
This role may involve aggressive dog handling, de‑escalation techniques, public speaking, and participation in community engagement events.
The role is office‑based in Manukau and operates on a rolling 5‑week roster, which includes some weekend work.
This is a permanent full‑time opportunity.

We are seeking a conscientious and community‑minded professional who is passionate about public safety and positive outcomes for whānau and communities.
You will bring:
- Experience in public‑facing, compliance, enforcement, or community engagement roles
- Strong relationship‑building and stakeholder engagement skills
- Confidence in public speaking and group engagement
- Excellent customer service and conflict management skills
- A calm, empathetic approach to resolving challenging situations
- Cultural awareness and an understanding of local communities
Confidence dealing with aggressive dogs is important; training will be provided.
A current, full clean New Zealand driver’s licence is required.
Recruitment process - what to expect

- Participation in a one‑day assessment centre in the first week of June
Candidates who progress through the process will be considered for permanent roles within the Proactive Animal Management team as vacancies arise.

This is band F
Salary range: $80,000 to $83,000 (depending on experience) plus shift and on-call allowances. Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
