We are excited to share with you an opportunity to join the Papakura Local Board team at Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini as the Poutoko Rātonga Māori.
Takaanini is a bilingual Whānau Hub that seeks to respond to the call of whānau aspirations to create a place of value and belonging by weaving te ao Māori through our whare. The three pou this whare operates under are:
- Pou Maatauranga: An inclusive approach to activate spaces to learn and play.
- Pou Hauora: Whānau live well, are happy and healthy.
- Pou Ooritetanga: Equitable access to facilities to grow community wellbeing kaupapa.
These whare is a bold attempt to indigenize how we create space, how we manage resources, how we build teams, how we listen, how we act, how we serve.
He angituutanga: The opportunity
You will advocate for the Māori voice and be the 'go-to' person for Māori knowledge & expertise, collaborating with Māori customers and the community. You will plan and deliver Maaori programming in the whare. Provide exceptional customer service. Including educating customers to use a wide range of library and non-library resources and navigating literacy and social vulnerability issues.

You work from an indigenous worldview; you recognize mana atua, mana tangata and mana whenua in your practice. You will lead in the space of: mātauranga, oritetanga and hauora. You will have a passion for providing outstanding programming and events for whanau, and the ability to work alongside Māori organizations to provide services to our hapori.
Ngaa aahuatanga kei a maatou: What we offer
You will be working within a library whānau that has a team culture strong in te reo and tikanga Māori, a place where everyone can feel they belong. This is a permanent opportunity, working 40 hours per week. Our library is open seven days a week and this role will include a weekend day.
