Ngā Pātaka Kōrero o Tāmaki Makaurau (Auckland Libraries) has a strong community focus and we are an extraordinary destination for the people of Auckland.  Our Network Library & Council Service Assistants play a vital part in our library team by providing coverage to a range of libraries across Franklin, Manurew & Papakura local boards. You will be working within a library whānau that has a team culture strong in te reo and tikanga Māori, a place where everyone can feel they belong. 


No two days are the same, you will greet and assist customers with a variety of queries from assisting customers to accessing library & council services, supporting with the delivery of programmes and events, digital troubleshooting, Wi-Fi, and general computer queries.

 

We are looking for service assistants to work across Pukekohe​, Waiuku, Waimāhia (Clendon), Manurewa, Papakura, and Takaanini Libraries. Please note this is a 6 month fixed-term opportunity.
  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote self-service options to enable customers to self-serve confidently on future occasions.
  • Work confidently with new communities, supporting diverse community needs and growing cultural awareness.
  • Diffuse high-tension situations appropriately and safely and escalate matters where necessary.
  • Respond to internal and external customers in a friendly and helpful manner.
  • Keep up to date with current technology to support customers with access to resources in all formats and develop an understanding of the standards and tenets of professional librarianship.
  • Support customers to navigate complex or persistent issues and provide exceptional customer service.

Flexibility, adaptability, superb people skills, a willingness to learn, a passion for customer service and a can-do attitude are essential.

 

The ideal candidate will be:

•    Able to provide an amazing level of customer service 

•    An outstanding communicator who can build and maintain relationships with a wide range of people.      
•    A quick learner who would be able to assist people with technology queries
•    Someone who loves working with tamariki and can assist with programmes
•    Someone who enjoys day-to-day frontline library service and wants the opportunity to connect directly with our library patrons
•    Flexible around working days and hours with availability on weekends and some late nights required

Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer.

This is a part-time position working a minimum of 32 hours per fortnight, with the option to pick up additional shifts as they become available. We offer a role that has variety and flexibility. You will have the ability to choose days of work that suit you & the opportunity to experience different teams and ways of working across Auckland Libraries. 

You’ll need to be available to work at least 8 days (including 2 weekend days per fortnight). This doesn’t mean you need to work for all of those 8 days, just that you’re available so your team leader can schedule your shifts into the system. You will need to be available for shifts across all opening hours (including late nights).
