We are excited to share with you an opportunity to join the Papakura Local Board team at Te Paataka Koorero o Takaanini as the Librarian: Youth
Takaanini is a Bi-lingual Whānau Hub that seeks to respond to the call of whānau aspirations to create a place of value and belonging by weaving te ao Māori through our whare.
The three pou this whare operates under are:
- Pou Maatauranga: An inclusive approach to activate spaces to learn and play.
- Pou Hauora: Whānau live well, are happy and healthy.
- Pou Ooritetanga: Equitable access to facilities to grow community wellbeing kaupapa.
This whare is a bold attempt to indigenise how we create space, how we manage resources, how we build teams, how we listen, how we act, how we serve.
He angituutanga: The opportunity
Day to day you will:
- Connect rangatahi and whaanau with library services and programmes in Papakura–Manurewa.
- Support the leadership team with daily operations across Paataka Koorero libraries.
- Facilitate community engagement in designing services and initiatives for rangatahi and whaanau.
- Act as a role model and coach in delivering excellent customer service.
- Build strong relationships with high schools, youth service providers, and the wider whānau.
He koorero moou: About you
To be successful in this role you will have:
- Ability to lead with an indigenous worldview, recognising mana atua, mana tangata, and mana whenua in practice.
- Experience working with rangatahi and whaanau, with a focus on maatauranga, ooritetanga, and hauora.
- Ability to coach and inspire teams in designing innovative programmes and events for rangatahi.
- Skilled in building meaningful connections with rangatahi and fostering inclusive, empowering spaces.
This experience can be in a work or real-world community setting.
Ngaa aahuatanga kei a maatou: What we offer
You will be working within a library whaanau that has a team culture strong in te reo and tikanga Maaori, a place where everyone can feel they belong.
This is a permanent opportunity working 38 hours per week. Our library is open seven days a week and you would be required to work a regular weekend day. As a part on the wider Papakura – Manurewa Local Board whanau, flexibility is required regarding hours and location.

This role is a band E, we would be looking to appoint the successful candidate at a salary of between $65K - $77K dependant on experience.
