He angitūtanga: The opportunity
 
This is an exciting permanent full-time opportunity for an experienced horticulturist to join the team.
You will contribute to a small team that delivers high standard presentation of amenity gardens, landscape and associated hardscape and assets in the botanic gardens. 
 
You can expect to work on: 

  • Maintenance of amenity gardens (including turf, structures and hard landscaped areas) using a variety of plant and equipment.
  • Supervise and, when required, train other staff, temporary workers, and volunteers—supporting the development of skilled and professional team members who contribute to excellent horticultural standards and a high-quality Botanic Gardens.
  • Liaise with garden visitors, friends, local user groups, iwi, stakeholders, and commercial users to establish, maintain, and enhance strong, positive working relationships.
  • Conserve plants relevant to the portfolio in collaboration with the Botanical Records & Conservation Specialist.
  • Ensure appropriate plant introductions are made, and all required plants are accurately labelled, maintaining high standards of service delivery and performance.

This role has a remuneration range of  $66,000 - $72,000 depending on experience and skillset.

You will bring proven experience from similar roles within large, complex, and potentially politically influenced organisations, demonstrating your ability to navigate diverse stakeholder needs while delivering high-quality horticultural outcomes.

We’re looking for a passionate horticultural professional who is happy to get their hands dirty no matter the weather, then this is the role for you.

 

We will be looking for specific experience with the key role requirements:

  • Level 4 qualification in horticulture or landscape construction
  • 3 years of experience in amenity horticulture or landscape construction industry, preferably in Botanic Gardens
  • GrowSafe certification
  • A current, valid and full drivers license 
  • The ability to think strategically while maintaining a customer-focused approach
