Casual Team Member | Otara Pool and Leisure Centre

He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council’s Pools and Leisure has an opportunity for a Casual Team Member position at our busy Otara Pool and Leisure Centre.

We are looking for casual team members who will be predominantly working as lifeguards and customer supports.

Lifeguarding is the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and is essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities. Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way. No two days will be the same! 

In this frontline role, your responsibilities will also include:

  • Delivering exceptional service to our customers and visitors;
  • Supporting with the delivery of a variety of exciting sports and recreational programmes for young adults and youth;  
  • Helping the Centre maintain a caring, fun and safe fitness and leisure environment;
  • Providing assistance to the center with administration and operational duties; and
  • Supporting with center activities, including sporting leagues and daily timetabled programmes.  
  • This is an on-site casual position. The shifts are subject to change according to the roster and the needs of the center. 

Our Centre opens 7 days a week: Mon–Fri: 5 am – 8 pm, Sat–Sun: 9:00 am–6:30 pm, the ability to work early night, late night, and weekends is crucial.

We are looking for strong swimmers of all ages, who are dedicated to helping others and ensuring a safe, welcoming environment. As a casual team member, you’ll need to stay alert, work well in a team, and provide excellent customer service.

You wil be an enthusiastic team player, you’ll have a positive attitude and infectious energy and be committed to providing your customers with an exceptional experience.  

You will also need to have a current First Aid Certificate and Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

Previous experience working with children is beneficial. Importantly, you’ll be committed to maintaining a high degree of professionalism in your work.

Pay rate: living wage - $28.95+/h (Our employer KiwiSaver contribution is in addition to the base salary offered.)
