He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Auckland Council animal shelters provide refuge for over 6,500 dogs each year with Manukau Animal Shelter housing over 50% of these dogs. The shelters are a critical point of contact for customers 364 days per year, whether reuniting lost animals with their owners, re-homing abandoned dogs or enforcing the Dog Control Act 1996. Lead and manage a team of dedicated Animal Shelter officers who provide both proactive and reactive comprehensive, accurate and professional animal management services. As well as leading a highly skilled and passionate team, you will also be responsible for managing the shelter facility and ensuring that the dogs we house receive the necessary care and attention they require. This is to ensure Auckland Council professionally, competently, and efficiently fulfils its responsibilities and delivers maximum service and benefit to both our customers, and for the dogs in our shelters.

 

He kōrero mōu: About you
 

You will be keen to be key in an environment that fosters voluntary compliance, supported by strong and targeted education programmes.  We need you to have 5-7+ years’ experience managing or supervising a team, preferably with experience in facility management, financial management and a strong customer service background. As The work can be difficult but is also rewarding the ability to lead a high performing team and to foster a positive team environment is essential, as is the ability to influence and drive results with your internal and external stakeholders whilst maintaining and enhancing positive relationships. Knowledge of dog behaviour and disease prevention is preferred. Excellent health and safety practice is essential as we strive to make Auckland's animal management services world-class.
 

This role is deemed safety sensitive and in line with Auckland Council policy, you will be required to complete pre-employment drug and alcohol testing.
