He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are seeking Expressions of Interest for Animal Compliance Officers to join our teams across Auckland. These opportunities span multiple locations:
- East, South and Central Teams – Office based in Manukau
- West Team – Based at Henderson Animal Shelter
- North Team – Based at the Albany Office
As an Animal Compliance Officer, you will work within the Dog Control Act 1996 and Council policies and procedures to respond to public complaints and customer requests, including:
- Managing aggressive and/or barking dogs
- Dog attacks, wandering dogs, and stock control issues
- Proactive patrols and education within the community
- Assisting with investigations, evidence gathering, and prosecutions
You will spend most of your time working in the community, often operating independently, while being supported by a large and experienced team. Intelligence-led and proactive patrols are a key part of this role.
These roles operate on a variable 24/7 roster, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and on call work, depending on the team and operational needs.

We’re looking for committed, professional people who are motivated to ensure public safety and compliance. You’ll bring:
- Experience in public-facing, compliance, enforcement, or regulatory roles
- Strong customer service and conflict management skills
- A calm, professional approach when dealing with challenging situations and distressed customers
- Confidence handling aggressive dogs and other animals
- The ability to work autonomously while contributing to a wider team
A current, full clean New Zealand driver’s licence is essential.
Recruitment process – what to expect

3. One day assessment centre, scheduled for the first week of June

Salary range: $80,000 to $83,000 (depending on experience) plus shift and on-call allowances. Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
