Auckland Botanic Gardens is home to over 10,000 plants from around the world. Covering 64 hectares of land, including 10 hectares of native forest, the Botanic Gardens attract almost 1 million visitors each year. With such a large area and array of plant species, this Amenity Gardener  is a unique opportunity to become part of a great team and work in a great environment!

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are seeking a competent professional horticulturist with a broad range of skills for work in our gardens. You will ensure the presentation of the gardens meet visitor and stakeholder expectations and contribute to delivery of high quality experiences in one of Auckland's leading visitor destinations.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance of gardens to required standards
  • Ensures plant introductions are aligned with our Guidelines and all plants are labelled and accession tags attached
  • Maintain records of data relevant to the gardens and ensure these are provided to the botanical records office accurately and in a timely manner
  • Liaise with horticulturists, garden visitors, friends, local user groups, iwi, stakeholders and commercial users

All applicants will have a range of attributes including:

  • A minimum 2 years practical experience working in amenity horticulture, preferably in public or Botanic Gardens
  • Competent in a wide range of practical horticultural skills and knowledge of plants
  • Proficient in record keeping and with basic computer skills   
  • A completed horticultural apprenticeship to (minimum level 4), or demonstrated equivalent competence and knowledge in a related field
  • Growsafe certificate (preferable)
