Auckland Council's Licensing and Compliance Department has an opportunity for an experienced Senior Compliance Officer to join our Compliance team. This is a Permanent Full-Time opportunity.

This is an opportunity to apply your investigative expertise to work that genuinely makes a difference across Tāmaki Makaurau. You'll lead complex compliance investigations, work across legislation including the Resource Management Act, 

Building Act and Council Bylaws, and help achieve positive outcomes for Auckland's communities, environment and built spaces.

No two days are the same. One day you could be investigating significant non-compliance, the next collaborating with internal specialists, government agencies or customers to resolve complex issues. You'll also play an important role supporting and mentoring less experienced officers, sharing your expertise and helping build capability across the team.

Day-to-day you could expect to work on:

• Leading investigations into complex compliance matters across Auckland.
•  Assessing breaches of the Resource Management Act, Building Act and Council Bylaws, determining appropriate enforcement outcomes.
• Working collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies and customers to resolve compliance issues.
• Coaching and mentoring Compliance Officers while supporting the Team Leader with technical advice and workload management.
• Preparing high-quality investigation reports, recommendations and enforcement documentation, while keeping customers informed throughout the process

You're an experienced compliance professional who combines sound judgement with a practical, solutions-focused approach. You enjoy investigating complex issues, interpreting legislation and working with a wide range of people to achieve positive outcomes.

You're confident making difficult decisions, comfortable having challenging conversations, and understand that successful compliance is about education, collaboration and enforcement where required.

We're looking for someone with:

• At least 5 years' experience in regulatory compliance, investigations or enforcement within local or central government, or a similar regulatory environment.
• Strong working knowledge of the Resource Management Act, Building Act and relevant Council Bylaws, with demonstrated investigative and enforcement experience.
• Excellent communication, negotiation and report-writing skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and manage complex stakeholders.
• A relevant tertiary qualification and a current full New Zealand driver's licence.
• Experience coaching or mentoring others, along with knowledge of wider regulatory frameworks and a commitment to continuous learning and developing capability.
