He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Licensing and Compliance department has an opportunity for a Senior Barking and Registration Officer to join our Animal Management team on a fixed-term basis located in Manukau.
This is a varied role combining field-based compliance, team support, customer engagement and coordination. You’ll help address barking complaints, improve dog registration compliance and support the delivery of key Animal Management programmes across Tāmaki Makaurau. Working alongside the Barking and Registration Team Leader, you’ll help coordinate workloads, support team members and respond to more complex or escalated matters. You’ll also spend time in the field undertaking property visits, registration campaigns and other compliance activities.
You could expect to work on:
- Coordinating barking and registration compliance activities, including job allocation, targeted operations and campaigns.
- Supporting the investigation and escalation of barking complaints and complex customer matters.
- Undertaking field activities such as property visits, registration campaigns and dog seizures.
- Supporting the annual Dog Registration Renewal programme and other Animal Management projects.
- Helping team members apply legislation, policies and enforcement processes consistently and maintaining accurate case records.

You’ll bring solid experience in a compliance, regulatory or animal management environment, along with leadership experience and the ability to support others in a busy operational setting.
We will be looking for:
- 5+ years’ experience in compliance, regulatory or animal management environments.
- 2+ years’ experience leading or coordinating people, workloads or operational activities.
- Experience interpreting and applying legislation, policies and regulatory processes.
- Demonstrated experience managing complex situations, resolving conflict and de-escalating challenging interactions.
- A relevant tertiary qualification in management, leadership, animal management, regulatory studies or a related field, or equivalent experience, plus a current full New Zealand driver licence.

This role has a remuneration range of $78,311 - $92,130
Our employer Kiwisaver contribution is additional to base salary offered.
