Are you passionate about cybersecurity and education? Do you want to lead a program that will shape how our people understand and engage with information security? We are looking for an experienced and proactive Security Awareness Lead to join Auckland Council!

 

He angitūtanga: The Opportunity 

 

As the Security Awareness Lead, you will be responsible for owning and driving Auckland Council’s "Security Awareness Programme" to promote a culture of cybersecurity. You will manage and deliver the program efficiently, ensuring cost-effectiveness while making a real impact in educating our kaimahi. Your role will include coordinating specialist functions, engaging with various teams, and creating educational initiatives tailored to different business needs. You will also promote best practices in information security through effective communication and education.

Key Responsibilities

  • Own the Security Awareness Programme and manage its delivery.
  • Coordinate specialist functions to support the successful implementation of the program.
  • Facilitate and lead information security activities in response to business needs (e.g., Agile practices).
  • Provide expert education on Information Security by identifying learning needs, creating engaging content, and distributing it through multiple channels.
  • Develop and deliver a range of different types of awareness material, including short-form and long-form content, using various mediums such as online platforms, videos, and interactive sessions.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for teams seeking educational services, building strong relationships across the council.
  • Identify and collaborate with experts to support annual awareness planning and specific initiatives.
  • Work closely with other educational services within the Council to ensure consistency and integration.

Key Outcomes

  • Improved awareness and understanding of security principles among Council kaimahi.
  • Metrics that demonstrate the effectiveness of security awareness initiatives.
  • High levels of kaimahi understanding of Security Policy and their contributions to compliance obligations.

 

 

He kōrero mōu: About You 

  • Tertiary qualification in Communications, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field. Equivalent industry qualifications or extensive relevant experience are also acceptable.
  • Proven track record in developing educational content (e.g., eLearning, videos, articles) and delivering it to diverse audiences through multiple channels.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of industry trends in Information Security and security awareness.
  • Strong planning and coordination skills, capable of collaborating with colleagues and external suppliers.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate, influence, and build rapport at all levels.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Business acumen, with the ability to develop security awareness initiatives that align with business needs.
  • Experience delivering projects in an agile environment.
  • Strong understanding of security awareness practices and their implementation.
  • Ability to prioritize and work autonomously.
