Are you ready to spend your summer making a difference and having fun in the sun? Become a lifeguard at Auckland Council’s Pool and Leisure Centres.
As a seasonal lifeguard, you will ensure the safety and enjoyment of pool users by providing quality supervision and upholding health and safety standards.
As a Lifeguard, you are responsible for:
- Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers
- Educating and enforcing pool rules
- Responding to any First Aid emergencies
- Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean
We are looking for 12 people for fixed-term opportunities during our busy summer period from 11th Nov 2024 until 28th Feb 2025, at our Manurewa and Totara Park Leisure Centres.
As our centre operates from 5:30am to 9pm Monday to Friday, 7 days a week, the ability to work early morning, late night, and weekend is vital.

We are looking for strong swimmers, who are dedicated to helping others.
The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test. Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:
- Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
- Swim 25m sidestroke
- Swim 50m breaststroke
- Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
- Tread water for 5 minutes
Flexibility, reliability and a commitment to working early, late, and weekend shifts are essential.
To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC). We will provide ALL training for you free of charge and will pay for you to attend the training to enable you to get your Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC). You will be required to attend the following training dates at our West Wave location Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:
- 11/11/2024 – 22/11/2024
- 02/12/2024 – 13/12/2024

Pay rate: $27.80 /hr
