Resolutions Specialist
Date: 29 Oct 2026
Location: NZ, 1010
Company: Auckland Council
- Play a key role in Auckland’s traffic and parking control network
- Combine technical drafting, AutoCAD and practical site investigation
- Bring transferable transport skills and grow into a rare specialist role
He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Council’s Transport Controls Unit has an opportunity for two Resolutions Specialists to join the team. This is a distinctive role at the point where traffic engineering, technical drafting, legislation and real-world transport operations come together.
You will help turn proposals in traffic and parking control reports into clear, accurate and enforceable controls. This includes preparing legally precise control wording and matching AutoCAD drawings, investigating conditions on the road, and checking that approved controls have been installed correctly.
You will work with Council teams, traffic engineers, consultants, developers and other stakeholders, providing practical technical and procedural advice and helping improve the way transport-control work is documented and delivered.
You could expect to work on:
- Preparing traffic and parking control reports, technical wording and AutoCAD drawings.
- Undertaking site visits, measurements, surveys and photography to confirm existing conditions.
- Reconstructing historic records where earlier decisions or documentation are incomplete or no longer match what is on the road.
- Auditing installed traffic and parking controls against approved reports and drawings and clearly documenting any discrepancies.
- Providing advice on legislative requirements, control requirements and transport-control decision-making processes.
- Improving templates, drawing standards, guidance, workflows and quality-assurance practices.
He kōrero mōu: About you
This role will suit someone who enjoys detail, investigation and practical problem-solving. You may already have direct traffic-controls experience, or you may bring relevant skills from traffic engineering, transport operations, technical drafting, surveying, compliance, asset management or another closely related field.
You will be comfortable working with technical plans and precise wording, following issues through where records are complex or incomplete, and explaining your conclusions clearly. You will also be able to work independently in the field and collaboratively with a wide range of people.
We are particularly interested in applicants who can demonstrate a combination of:
- Experience or knowledge relevant to traffic engineering, transport operations, traffic control devices or parking controls.
- The ability to read, prepare or review technical reports, plans or drawings.
- Experience using AutoCAD, or a sound foundation in technical drawing and the ability to develop AutoCAD capability.
- Strong attention to detail, critical reasoning, investigation and problem-solving skills.
- Clear written and verbal communication and the ability to build effective working relationships.
- An understanding of legislation, regulation or formal decision-making processes, ideally in a local-government or transport setting.
- A relevant tertiary qualification or equivalent practical experience.
- A full Class 1 driver licence and the ability to undertake field inspections and site investigations.

Direct experience preparing traffic and parking control reports and drawings, around five years’ relevant experience, a traffic engineering degree, and/or a certified AutoCAD drafting qualification would all be valuable. They are not an all-or-nothing checklist. If your experience is adjacent or your career path is different, but you have the core technical aptitude and can see yourself succeeding in this specialist work, we encourage you to apply. |
Ngā āhuatanga kei a mātou: What we offer
This is an opportunity to build expertise in a specialist area that has a direct effect on how Auckland’s transport network operates. You will be part of a team whose work helps ensure traffic and parking controls are accurately documented, legally robust and capable of being implemented and enforced.

You will work across Auckland, build relationships with a broad range of transport professionals and contribute to continuous improvement in Council’s systems and practices.
Auckland Council offers a range of employee benefits and supports flexible working options where possible.
If you have a strong eye for detail, enjoy combining technical investigation with practical problem-solving, and are interested in developing expertise in this unusual field, we would like to hear from you.
