He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tāmaki is one of Aotearoa New Zealand’s leading cultural institutions, home to an internationally significant collection and a dynamic programme of exhibitions, loans, commissions and touring projects.
We are looking for an experienced individual to fill the role of Registrar (Collections) for a period of approximately 10 months (mid-June 2026 until mid-April 2027) to cover staff parental leave.
This role’s primary focus will be to manage the Gallery’s busy outward loans programme. The successful applicant will also work with one other Collections Registrar in a crucial role of supporting the Gallery’s acquisitions, exhibitions, loans, research and conservation programmes, ensuring that high standards of care and documentation are maintained.
You will become part of a supportive team of six Registrars and two Registration Technicians, giving you the opportunity to contribute to the gallery’s collection management programme. Talented with an understanding of project management and creative problem solving, you will have the ability to be self-directed to meet objectives and achieve results within deadlines.
The role will be based at the Auckland Art Gallery, however occasional workdays at the Gallery’s offsite storage facility will be required.

You’ll bring confidence managing multiple priorities, working across internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring artworks, documentation and logistics are delivered accurately, safely and on time.
To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:
- Vernon CMS software experience
- A tertiary qualification in Museum Studies, Fine Arts, Art History or similar
- A current driver’s licence
- A minimum of three years’ gallery/museum experience in registration or collection care.

The salary for this role is between NZ $80,600 and NZ $89,600 based on skillset and experience. (Band F)
