As the Product Owner – Modern Data Platforms, you will lead the vision, prioritisation, and continuous delivery of our enterprise data platform capabilities. You will work closely with architects, engineers, and highly technical customer groups to ensure the platform remains robust, secure, and aligned with modern data engineering principles.

You will own and manage the product backlog, facilitate prioritisation across cross-functional teams, and drive the adoption of modern data platform practices that enable data access, reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency.

He kōrero mōu: About you

You are a delivery-focused Product Owner with a solid grounding in modern data platform technologies and infrastructure. You bring a deep understanding of cloud-native design, data tooling, and automation, paired with the ability to translate technical priorities into business outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

  • Strong understanding of modern data platform architecture, including cloud-native design, modularity, and scalability.
  • Hands-on experience with core platform tools including Snowflake (data warehousing), Fivetran (data ingestion), dbt (data transformation), Terraform, GitHub, and Azure cloud services.
  • Proven ability to work closely with platform engineers and infrastructure teams to prioritise and sequence technical work across multiple delivery streams.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools like Terraform to ensure repeatable, secure deployments.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and automation pipelines for data platform components, including testing and monitoring workflows.
  • Strong grounding in data security and compliance, including access control, encryption, and regulatory frameworks (e.g. GDPR, NZ Privacy Act).
  • Experience implementing or supporting observability and monitoring tools to ensure platform uptime, reliability and performance, with the ability to clearly communicate service impacts to both technical and business stakeholders.
  • Ability to collaborate with data engineers, analytics teams, and product owners to ensure the platform meets evolving business needs and supports self-service enablement.
  • Understanding of cloud cost optimisation strategies and ability to manage budgets across data platform services.
  • A continuous improvement mindset with a strong awareness of new technologies, emerging tooling, and vendor ecosystems, with the confidence to engage in technically informed discussions.
