As Product Owner – Business Intelligence & Analytics, you will be accountable for the strategic direction, value delivery, and ongoing enhancement of Council’s enterprise analytics products and services.
You will partner closely with data engineers, analysts, and business stakeholders to develop and manage a roadmap of reporting and analytics solutions that meet the evolving needs of the organisation. This includes championing modern BI platforms, ensuring technical excellence, and driving adoption of best practices in data visualisation, modelling, and integration.
Your ability to translate business problems into actionable, data-driven insights will be critical in enabling informed decision-making across Auckland Council.

You are an experienced Product Owner or senior BI professional with a strong understanding of the end-to-end analytics lifecycle, cloud data environments, and stakeholder engagement in complex organisations. You bring a delivery mindset, a user-focused approach, and a passion for turning data into meaningful outcomes.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Proven experience in a Product Owner or similar leadership role within the business intelligence or analytics domain.
- Deep knowledge of modern analytics platforms, including Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and the broader Microsoft data ecosystem.
- Strong capability in dimensional and semantic data modelling, including star and snowflake schemas, optimised for usability and performance.
- Understanding of cloud data warehousing principles, including ingestion, transformation, and optimisation, particularly within Azure-based environments.
- Demonstrated ability to elicit reporting requirements and deliver intuitive, interactive dashboards and visualisations that drive business value.
- Experience with data integration and transformation tools such as Azure Data Factory, dbt, or native Snowflake pipelines.
- Sound knowledge of data governance and security principles in analytics environments, including role-based access, data lineage, and compliance considerations.
- Awareness of regulatory obligations including GDPR and PII, and their implications for analytics delivery and data handling.
- Familiarity with the enterprise analytics ecosystem, including third-party tools, connectors, and strategic data platforms (e.g. Dataiku) with AI and modelling capabilities.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills, particularly when managing competing or conflicting reporting requirements across business units.
- Ability to prioritise and manage a product backlog aligned to business outcomes, data maturity levels, and organisational priorities.
