Product Owner

He angitūtanga: The opportunity
We are looking for a Product Owner – Security to join our Product Management Practice on a fixed term 12-month contract.In this role you will be responsible for leading the development and management of security products and services that support Auckland Council’s cyber resilience. You will work closely with a range of stakeholders to ensure security priorities are well understood, balanced, and delivered to meet organisational outcomes.

You will bring a strong background in cybersecurity, SOC operations, or security engineering, along with proven experience as a Product Owner or in a similar leadership role. Your ability to manage competing priorities, engage with stakeholders, and translate business needs into clear security outcomes will be key to your success.We are looking for someone who has:Prior 4-5 years experience as a PO or a product management background in cybersecurity, SOC operations, or security engineeringKnowledge of cybersecurity practices such as SIEM, SOAR, incident response, threat intelligence, and vulnerability managementFamiliarity with risk frameworks (NIST, ISO 27001, etc.) and how these shape security prioritiesExperience with security tools and platforms (e.g. Splunk, CrowdStrike, Mimecast, or similar)An understanding of networks and infrastructureStrong stakeholder engagement and conflict resolution skills, particularly when working across different business unitsExperience in prioritising and managing a product backlog aligned to business outcomes
