As the Practice Manager, you’ll lead a passionate team of Software Engineers, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous improvement. You’ll ensure high-quality standards, guide the team through the transition to DevOps, and attract top talent to serve the community of Auckland. Your ability to set clear goals, provide constructive feedback, and lead knowledge-sharing sessions will be key to motivating and inspiring your team. With your strategic mindset, you will work closely with stakeholders to align initiatives with Auckland Council’s broader vision and the evolving needs of the city.

Key Responsibilities:
- Team Leadership: Lead and manage a diverse team of Software Engineers, providing guidance, coaching, mentorship, and support.
- Quality Assurance: Ensure high standards of work, compliance with best practices, and a culture of continuous improvement.
- Process Improvement: Optimize product management processes, methodologies, and frameworks to enhance team performance.
- Talent Development: Recruit, hire, and foster the growth of software engineers, building a high-performing, innovative team.
- Performance Management: Set clear performance expectations, provide ongoing feedback, and conduct performance reviews.
- Knowledge Sharing: Facilitate knowledge-sharing sessions, encouraging continuous learning and development across the practice.
- Stakeholder Management: Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal and external stakeholders to align projects and initiatives.
- Practice Strategy: Develop and maintain a practice strategy that addresses current and future business needs, effectively manages talent acquisition and sourcing approaches.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, IT, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5+ years in a leadership role, managing teams of 30+ people, preferably in a software engineering or technology-related field.
- Deep understanding of product development methodologies and Agile practices.
- Proven experience in driving innovation and high-performance teams.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and lead a diverse group of individuals.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make data-driven decisions.
- Experience with DevOps and transitioning teams towards agile and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices would be beneficial.
