He angitūtanga: The opportunity
Help shape our city through sustainable placemaking systems and partnerships.
We’re looking for a detail-savvy and relationship-driven professional to join our Community Engagement team as a Placemaking Systems Advisor. This newly shaped role will help embed sustainable procurement practices within our placemaking approach, ensuring outcomes that benefit Auckland’s communities, suppliers, and spaces.

This is a dynamic, multi-dimensional role sitting at the intersection of procurement, placemaking, and local partnerships. You’ll support the development and delivery of effective strategies and processes that reflect Auckland Council’s policy, while also supporting social procurement outcomes and championing community-focused delivery.

Your days will involve:

  • Leading and improving systems that guide how we engage suppliers in our placemaking programmes.
  • Acting as a key liaison between procurement, placemaking, suppliers, and contractors.
  • Supporting local and emerging suppliers and helping them navigate Council systems.
  • Coordinating Waterfront activities and managing associated public enquiries and logistics.
  • Monitoring contracts, quotes, invoicing and budgeting – ensuring all procurement activity is robust, timely and aligned with our wider strategy.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You’ll be someone who’s comfortable navigating both systems and people. You enjoy improving processes, tracking the detail, and ensuring good practice – but you also know how to build rapport and support others through the mechanics of delivery.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven experience in administration, procurement or contract coordination, ideally with exposure to public sector systems.
  • A good understanding of sustainable procurement principles and how to support local supplier participation.
  • Experience delivering within a complex or political environment, with sound judgement and strong EQ.
  • The ability to work independently, manage multiple workstreams, and meet deadlines.
  • Strong relationship and stakeholder management skills, including external engagement and community responsiveness.
  • Familiarity with Council procurement policy (an advantage but not essential).

A relevant tertiary qualification and at least five years' experience in creative sector administration, procurement, policy implementation, or process coordination is expected.
