Team Member, Lifeguard | Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre

Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.

 

Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.

As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:

  • Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
  • Educating and enforcing pool rules.
  • Responding to any First Aid emergencies.
  • Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.

 

We are looking to fill two permanent part-time roles. Hours and shifts below:

  • 16 hour: Saturday (9:45am-6:15pm) and Tuesday (12:45pm-9:15pm)
  • 27 hour: Saturday (3pm-6pm), Monday (5am-1:30pm), Tuesday (12:45pm-9:15pm), and Friday (11:45am-8:15pm)

 

You will be required to attend one of the two training dates below. Monday to Friday at West Wave, 8am-4pm (weekedays):

  • Monday 25th August - Friday 5th September
  • Monday 22nd September - Friday 3rd October

We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).  The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test.  Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:

 

  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes 
  • Swim 25m sidestroke
  • Swim 50m breaststroke
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool 
  • Tread water for 5 minutes

We aim to help you upskill and develop, so that you can train and take on other functions within our centres.  Other functions can include being a Recreation Assistant, Fitness Instructor and more.

 

If we occasionally need help in other areas such as at our front desk or general customer service, as a team member, you may be called on to cover these areas if we are short staffed or during peak periods.
