Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of getting Auckland to be the most active city in the world. Currently, we’re looking for a Casual Learn to Swim Team Member to join our Pool and Leisure Centre team!

Based at Stanmore Bay Pool and Leisure Centre, this is a fantastic job where you can gain a formal qualification teaching people the basic principles of how to swim, maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors - we'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.

We are looking to fill a Casual Learn to Swim Team Member position, ideally suited to people who enjoy working with babies and toddlers and helping young learners from age 5 – adults build confidence in the water. As this is a casual role, work will be offered on an as-needed basis to support operational requirements. Applicants should be available from 3:15pm onwards and willing to work flexible hours when opportunities arise.

You will be required to attend a two‑week training programme, Monday to Friday from 8:00am to 4:00pm. 

• September 28 – October 9, 2026

This role involves spending extended periods in the water, working in a warm and humid pool environment, and regular exposure to chlorinated water.

You’re a confident swimmer and engaging instructor with a genuine love of the water. You bring strong customer service skills and can communicate clearly and confidently with people from all walks of life. Most importantly, you’re passionate about working with our diverse community and making a positive difference through what you do.

If you already hold a recognised swim teaching qualification or have previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’s fantastic but it’s not essential. We provide full, comprehensive training to support your success in the role. You’ll also need to be willing to complete First Aid training.

What we’re looking for:

• Strong swimming ability and confidence in the water
• Excellent communication and customer service skills
• A passion for teaching and engaging with a diverse community
• Willingness to complete First Aid training (training provided)

Pay rate: Living Wage $29.90/h. Please note, our employer KiwiSaver contribution is additional to the base salary offered.
