Team Member, Lifeguard | Birkenhead Pool and Leisure Centre
Working as a lifeguard is an opportunity for you to make a real difference in the community. Lifeguards are the key to ensuring a safe environment for our customers and are essential to the successful running of our aquatic facilities.
Pool lifeguards are observant, patient, and good with people. Their skill set means they have the confidence to act in a quick, responsible, and calm way.
As a Lifeguard you are responsible for:
- Providing a safe environment through proactive supervision and positive interaction with customers.
- Educating and enforcing pool rules.
- Responding to any First Aid emergencies.
- Ensuring our pool and the surrounding areas are always clean.
We are looking to fill a 6-hour permanent part-time position potentially extra shift might be available. Shifts below:
6-hour
- Saturday - 12:00pm-6:30pm
You will be required to attend the following training dates. Monday to Friday, 8am-4pm:
- September 22 – October 3, 2025

We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).
The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test. Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:
- Swim 200m in under 6 minutes
- Swim 25m sidestroke
- Swim 50m breaststroke
- Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool
- Tread water for 5 minutes

Pay rate: 28.95 living wage
