Senior Libraries & Council Services Assistant - Children & Youth - Takapuna Library – 20hrs/week fixed term until 26 Sept 2025
Love working with tamariki and rangatahi? Passionate about creating vibrant, welcoming community spaces? We’re looking for a dynamic, creative, and community-minded person to step into this senior frontline role supporting library services for tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau in the Devonport-Takapuna Local Board area.
📚 About the Role:
📍 Fixed term secondment, part-time (20 hours/week) – as our library operate seven days a week your schedule will include one weekend day
📍 Based at Takapuna Library, with flexibility to support programmes and services across Devonport-Takapuna
📍 Co-lead the creation of fun, engaging, and meaningful programmes for tamariki and rangatahi
📍 Support day-to-day library operations, stepping into leadership when needed
📍 Be a friendly face in our libraries, schools, ECEs, and community spaces – building lasting relationships and connections

What You’ll Do:
🎨 Co-create Youth-Focused Programmes – Collaborate with the Senior Librarian to deliver inspiring events and initiatives
🏫 Engage with the Community – Lead outreach sessions at schools, ECEs, and local groups
💬 Champion Exceptional Service – Welcome everyone with warmth, curiosity, and care
📱 Support Digital Literacy – Help customers gain confidence with devices and digital resources
🌱 Champion Climate Literacy for Young People – Help tamariki, rangatahi, and their whānau grow knowledge for a sustainable future
📚 Step Up as a Leader – Assist with day-to-day operations and mentor team members
🌈 Make a Positive Impact – Be a consistent, enthusiastic presence for young people and their whānau
What You Bring:
- Experience working with children and youth – and a love for it!
- A collaborative, can-do mindset – adaptable, proactive, and fun
- Confidence with tech – ready to guide others in using devices and digital tools
- Excellent people skills – a warm, inclusive, community-first approach
- A passion for lifelong learning, wellbeing, and equitable access
- Flexibility to work across multiple locations including opportunities to work in the wider Kaipātiki local board libraries
