An opportunity has arisen to work as a Library & Council Service Assistant in the Kaipātiki Local Board.

These two permanent positions includes weekend days and is currently worked at Birkenhead or Glenfield Library. You will need to be flexible about where you work as you will be working across the Kaipātiki Local Board libraries.

Our library whānau is focused on caring for each other, our community and our environment. It is known for promoting and educating about climate action and we want to do more in this (green literacy) space for our local community. We love collaborating with community partners and we welcome people from all walks of life.


We are looking for someone who will muck-in to do whatever needs doing with a smile on their face and in their heart.

You will play an active role in daily operations, ensuring patrons have an all-round excellent library experience.

Your mahi will include supporting day-to-day operations and the development and delivery of programmes driven by community needs. Every day is different which is what makes it fun!


 We are looking for someone who can demonstrate:

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience of working with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Experience delivering literacy programmes online and/or face-to-face
  • Comfortable with technology and able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices
  • Experience working with tamariki and rangatahi
  • Willing to muck in with the delivery and development of programmes and events
  • Flexibility and collaboration across all aspects of your mahi
  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
  • Knowledge/understanding of Te Ao Māori or willingness to learn
  • A second language is very desirable but not necessary
