He angitūtanga: The opportunity

This role is a vital part of our library service, connecting children, youth and whanau with programmes and many types of services.  

Your main location will be the Mahurangi East Library but you also may be required to at times work at our other sites – Warkworth, Wellsford. Mahurangi East Library is open 6 days a week so flexibility around working days is required.

Day to day tasks of the role will include but not be limited to:

• You will be responsible for developing and delivering programmes and events for tamariki and rangatahi that are innovative, responsive, and engaging for in the library and outreach in the community.
• Join our frontline library team serving customers & delivering council services
• Supporting the manager in daily operations if required.

This is a part time, permanent opportunity, the shift pattern for this role is as follows:

Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday: 08.30 – 17.00

Wednesday: 8.30 – 15.00 (negotiable)

Rotating Saturday roster – every 6 weeks (flexibility required for this day)

We are seeking someone with LIANZA professional registration or a relevant degree or library qualification.

Some key skills & attributes we will be looking for:

• Excellent customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
• A strong ability to build relationships with young people, children, their whanāu, schools and community stakeholders.
• Creativity in designing and delivering innovative programmes and events.
• An understanding of children and youth readers advisory and literacy skills and development.
• An ability to problem solve and think on your feet
• A great sense of resilience and ability to navigate challenging situations
• Experience working with people from diverse backgrounds
• Enjoy being part of a team and working collaboratively
• Comfortable with technology and able to support customers to successfully use information resources and devices
• Willing to ‘muck-in’ with the delivery and development of exciting community initiatives
• Flexibility and collaboration across all aspects of your mahi
• Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills
• Knowledge/understanding of Te Ao Māori and a willingness to learn

Salary: This role is a band F, we are expecting to appoint the successful candidate at a salary of $76,000 - $89,000, depending on skills & experience.
