Here at Auckland Council, our leisure centres play a key role in achieving our goal of get Auckland the most active city in the world. And right now, we’re looking for Learn to Swim Instructors to join our Pool and Leisure Centres teams across Auckland to help achieve that goal!
This is a fantastic job where you don’t need any formal qualifications or experience to apply – just a passion to work with our diverse community while also making a difference! We'll provide the training you need to succeed in the role.
Day-to-day you could expect to work on:
- Teaching people the basic principles of how to swim (we'll teach you how to do this!)
- Maintaining a fun, caring and safe environment for customers and visitors
- Being part of an amazing team serving your local community
We have 3 x 6-hours permanent part-time opportunities available at our centre, with the possibility of picking up additional shifts.
You will need to be available for work for at least one weekday shift and one weekend shift as follows:

Weekdays 3:15pm to 7:00pm

Satursday or Sunday 8:15am to 11:40am
He kōrero mōu: About you
You will be a great swimmer and instructor, have a love of water, have exceptional customer service skills, and be able to communicate well with members of the public.
You don’t need any formal qualifications or experience. If you do have a recognised swim teacher qualification or previous experience as a Swimming Instructor, that’d be fantastic. However, we will provide full, comprehensive training that you need to excel in the job.
To be considered for this role, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.

We strongly encourage up-skilling and training and as such once you are hired you would have the opportunity to pick up extra hours in a variety of roles such as Lifeguard, Customer Service Rep, Recreation Assistant and more.
Pay rate: $23.65
Please note: Candidates will be reviewed in Late May, and start day would be Late June
This position is deemed a safety sensitive position and will require pre-employment drug testing.
