He angitūtanga: The opportunity

Our pool and leisure facilities are more popular than ever, and as Lead Lifeguard, for our Albany Stadium Pool, you will play a key part in ensuring that all customers not only have a fantastic experience but a safe one.


Your main responsibilities will include the following:

  • Providing guidance on and supporting the delivery of aquatics-based programmes
  • General lifeguarding duties to ensure customers are safe and looked after
  • Supporting the Team Leader with day-to-day operations at the Centre.

  

This is a permanent part-time, 20-hour position, which involves 16 hours of lifeguarding and 4 hours of administrative tasks. As our centre opens 7 days a week, the ability to work early and late shifts, as well as weekends, is crucial in this role. Shifts below:

 

  • Sunday (11:00 AM – 7:30 PM) and Monday (5:00 AM – 1:30 PM); the remaining 4 hours are flexible, as they will be spent on administrative tasks.

You’ll have a passion for aquatics and enjoy sharing your knowledge and experience with customers and colleagues to improve water safety. You will be an excellent communicator and committed to delivering exceptional aquatic programmes and providing a high level of customer satisfaction.


Joining an energetic and passionate team, you’ll be a keen team player with a flexible approach and be able to take the initiative to help drive a positive safety culture.

 

We are looking for people who are strong swimmers, dedicated to helping others. To work as a pool, lead lifeguard in New Zealand, you will need to hold a Pool Lifeguard Practising Certificate (PLPC).

 

The first step in becoming a lifeguard for Auckland Council is to be able to pass this swim test.  Please only apply for this position if you feel you can:

 

  • Swim 200m in under 6 minutes 
  • Swim 25m sidestroke
  • Swim 50m breaststroke
  • Retrieve an object from the bottom of the pool 
  • Tread water for 5 minutes 

 

Please note that a swim test is not required if you hold an active and valid PLPC. Also, you must also be willing to complete First Aid training.
