Join Auckland Council’s Healthy Waters & Flood Resilience department as a Healthy Waters Specialist in our Northern-Rural Operations team based at our Albany Hub.
In this dynamic role, you'll be part of delivering innovative, high-quality stormwater solutions that are both timely and cost-effective. Your expertise will ensure the highest standards of health and safety, financial management, and risk mitigation.
You'll drive innovation while fostering strong relationships with stakeholders, contributing to the successful delivery of complex stormwater infrastructure projects.
Day-to-day you could expect to:
- Respond to and resolve customer enquiries and issues relating to the public stormwater system.
- Scope and manage a variety of activities related to the public stormwater system including underground pipework, green infrastructure and stormwater treatment systems.
- Participate in initiatives to develop and build continuous improvement understanding and capability.
- Assist in catchment assessments, identify erosion or flood risk hotspots, and support monitoring or intervention design.
- Promote water-sensitive design and nature-based treatment practices, integrating best-practice guidelines into catchment management plan projects.
- Ensure customer satisfaction, liaise with operational teams, private landowners, local boards, elected members and other stakeholders to address concerns in the stormwater network.

He kōrero mōu: About you
You are a dedicated professional with a strong background in civil/environmental engineering or environmental science. Your excellent customer rapport and communication skills, combined with effective leadership in project management, make you a valuable team player.
You are adaptable, with strong interpersonal skills, and have a proven ability to work independently on assigned tasks. Your experience in the three waters infrastructure sector and familiarity with Microsoft Office and advanced data analytics tools will be crucial in this role.
This is On Call position and you will be expected to on a periodic rotation with the rest of the team to respond to and be available for out of hours priority enquiries from customers and our contractors and attend site an when required.
We will be looking for the following qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Science or equivalent experience.
- 3+ years’ experience in three waters infrastructure sector
- Working in cross-functional teams, including virtual teams.
- Local government and associated political environment (desired).
